Curtis:

Good, I'm glad we agree. But then why you so quick to wager on a DSL setback?

Hey, I'm just as frustrated as you are with the telcos. But for their stranglehold on the 'last mile' I believe that DSL would be widespread by now. Its competition, mainly from the cablecos, that's driving the DSL effort by the telcos.

Sure DSL will have setbacks. They already have some. But I don't think their going to experience the problem the residents of Fremont experienced. DSL will have its one form of setbacks.

One the PacBell engineers I spoke with several month's ago told me when they first ran some trials in So. Cal. in a communication b/w LA & San Diego, the packetized communication got routed up to Sacramento.
Obviously, it resulted in a slower response time to the sender.

The bottom line here, Curtis, is that each will medium will have its own form of setbacks. And the one in the article, whether you like it or not, was demonstrative of the type problems likely to be experience by the cable customer. Given the point-to-point model of the twisted pair, this ain't gonna happen with DSL.
