Wednesday December 16, 10:16 am Eastern Time Company Press Release L-3 Communications Awarded Contract by U.S. Navy for Five Surface Data Link Systems NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 16, 1998--L-3 Communications (NYSE:LLL - news) announced today that its Communication Systems -- West (CS-West) division has been awarded a competitively procured 1999 (government fiscal year) contract option from the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR). The contract is valued at $26.6 million for the production of five Common High Bandwidth Data Link Surface Terminals (CHBDL-ST) and associated engineering support services. The contract contains four additional one-year options, which if exercised, will bring the total cumulative contract value to $129.6 million. Work will be performed in the CS-West headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah and is expected to be completed in July 2004. The CHBDL-ST system provides the Navy with the ability to collect electronic surveillance and reconnaissance data from remote airborne platforms. The system acquires data and distributes it to the appropriate shipboard users for processing and exploitation. This process increases the Navy's overall view of the battlespace, providing complete surveillance coverage within a 300 nautical mile radius.
