Don,

To support your conclusion, it looks like both formula X and formula Z imply an impending rise - how much, how sustainable, over how long a time?

donald: Well, getting this new thread off the ground I have not had much time to put together an analysis myself. So my first will be a quickie...

Looking at charts: End of Day, Theoretical (where applicable), Semi-Log

My personal Indicators are currently still in "A" short-term sell signals on the IND, TRAN, UTIL, NYA, SPX, NASDAQ and RUT. In addition the UTIL received a "B" short/medium-term sell signal as of Wednesday's closing numbers.

IND seems to have found support in the trading channel I follow. (21 day weighted envelope with a 2.75 shift) Of course, since the July top the IND (Dow Theoretical) has rarely been confined. I choose to use a more confining envelope, which tends to be more useful during the majority of the Indice's trading in less violate periods.

TRAN seems to be moving closer to its 200 day SMA and has managed divergence during this sharp snap back.

Looking at charts: Intraday Actual, 60 Minute Interval, Semi-Log

Both the NYA and SPX are trying to form Bearish Pennants. The NASDAQ and RUT have more bullish chart patterns, but no clear formations.

Note: With the dramatic recovery in Europe, rate decrease and Globex wild swings (down dramatically last night, up strong early AM and now close to flat) who can be sure of the open. I suspect a close to flat open. I am looking to take advantage of the "internut" IPOs. However, I will refrain from jumping in until the Market gives me a signal, as the "internuts" have been sensitive to the Market pullback, as was the case during the decline that began in July.
