Steve, the Nov. 30 issue of Sports Illustrated (the other SI) has a brilliant article on the last page denouncing the Bob Griese announcement. It tears into the notion that you can even compare the 98 Broncos to the 72 Dolphins. And it says old these old geezers always show up to games like the 85 Bears coming into Miami undefeated to wreak havoc.

I really doubt that Brian would throw a game for the sake of his dad. Look at it this way -- the Broncos would not erase or eclipse the record of the 72 Broncos if they go undefeated this year. The best they can do is TIE as undefeated. Nobody can ever do better than an undefeated season! So this is a lot of bru-ha over nothing, as far as I'm concerned.

The 72 Dolphins were a great team, but in a different era and they deserve their fame. The 98 Broncos are an equally great team and deserve an undefeated season if it happens. That would in no way diminish Miami's accomplishment in 1972. Much ado about nothing me thinks.
