Ole, Did you see the U.S. will issue a faux gold coin before the EU?
The new dollar coin will be gold colored, issued in 2000 because the Susan B. supply will be exhausted. Some of the designs are actually quite nice, and the Treasury is accepting comments on the finalists.

The United States Congress passed a law authorizing the United States Mint to place into circulation a new dollar coin, similar in size to the Susan B. Anthony dollar coin, golden in color, and with a distinctive edge.

Expected to be issued in the year 2000, the dollar coin will have a new design selected by the Treasury Secretary based on the recommendation of the Dollar Coin Design Advisory Committee."
