SCIENTIFIC ATLANTA INC (NYSE: SFA) News December 3, 07:59 Eastern Time WebTV cable-ready Washington, DC, Dec. 02, 1998 (The Content Factory via COMTEX) -- Scientific-Atlanta Inc. (SFA) will provide cable system operators and their subscribers with the Microsoft WebTV Network service for use on its advanced digital set-top box and digital interactive network. This will enable cable operators to offer the Net access, integrated with cable video programming, through set-top boxes, the company said. Microsoft (MSFT) and Scientific-Atlanta also announced they will collaborate on the design of a next-generation set-top box running the Windows CE operating system and based on the WebTV software.

Low slearner? The set top box -- ready for this -- is a little box that sits on top of your tv. You point your remote at it and choose a program, service, etc. from the menu on your tv screen. If you choose to rent a movie, on the ivod service, say Debbie does Smoothie, when you hit the "yes I want to pull myself off again" button, the stb will send that information to the server (CCUR's product) and the server will send you the signal, which you can then play with (among other things). Ie., you can fast forward through the "plot" and pause at the good positions, even rewinding through the spurts, if that's your thing. The server will also be integrated with the billing system, so that you will be properly penalized in the wallet for your secret desires. Is that helpful? Enticing? I use that example, because that will be the big money maker and is why the cable companies are erecting this structure. The business is no longer on the cum, which is why the stock price here is swelling. Our wallets are getting bigger, making our pants feel tighter. Enough, even for me.
