RESEARCH ALERT - Merrill cuts Cabletron December 3, 1998 09:08 AM NEW YORK, Dec 3 (Reuters) - Merrill Lynch said Thursday that it lowered its near-term rating on Cabletron Systems Inc CS to neutral from accumulate. -- Keeps long-term rating unchanged at accumulate. -- Company said Tuesday it expected to report a fiscal third-quarter loss instead of a profit and said fourth quarter earnings would fall short of Wall Street's expectations. -- Shares were down 4 at 9-3/4.
