This is also a good slide to look at - good diagram of what state of the art SAN will look like. Also reminds us that you can send data from different servers through the fabric (something it seems that Ancor always has taken pains to demonstrate at the trade shows):

Actually, I believe that the original use of SAN did mean System Area Network and people just started calling it 'Storage' instead because frankly it made it easier to understand. I remember going to a SAN conference last year to listen to what people had to say about them (a lot of confusion ;-) and some people referred to them this ('system') way.

It kind of reminds me of DVD...this originally meant Digital Versitile Disk, I believe, but so many people kept referring to it as Digital Video Disk that people believe that "V" always meant video (it didn't ;-))
