A summary of the announcment - Sounds as though Nortel will acquire a larger interest in Arris in exchange for spin off of LANCity. Antec's interest in Arris will be diluted. Sounds as though Antec is struggling with earnings warning. This should help them compete.

Nortel And ANTEC Sign On Broadband Technology

Nortel Networks and ANTEC have announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding that provides for the Broadband Technology Division, a subsidiary of Bay Networks, to be combined with Arris Interactive, a n ANTEC/Nortel joint venture company. ANTEC will receive exclusive distribution rights for all Broadband Technologies's products to all US cable operators while Nortel will have exclusive disribution rights outside the US and to non-cable operators in the US. Arris hope that the agreement to combine will strengthen Arris' Cornerstone product family, offering high-speed data and voice services with a platform and industry-standard technologies
