I see no reason why one board cannot support both the K7 and Alpha. It will not even need a bios change if both bios' are in the EEPROM. You can switch between bios' with a jumper on the high order address bit of the EEPROM.

I think it was an originally stated intention to have the ability to upgrade from K7 to Alpha on the same MOBO.
