Milehigh, You're quite perceptive. Likewise, for the last eight years, I've been perplexed over what the research departments of large brokerage firms don't know. My observation is that their analysis tends to be very quantitative, and lacking desperately on the qualitative. For instance, why do they continue to categorize Rambus as a semiconductor company when, in fact, it happens to be a intellectual property company---a big difference. It may be that analysts have time pressures and cannot afford to follow technologies that "may" succeed---and don't have enough float anyway. But, I will be just as astonished when (as REH mentioned) the large brokerages begin coverage with a buy at a $100.
