We're a long way from record trading volumes. Largest daily volumes during upswings that I can find in my records were about 48 million on 10/28/97 (the day after the crash), and then 46 million on 2/4/98 (following the Q4 earnings and DEC acquisition). Largest volume during a downswing was about 72 million on the infamous 3/9/98.
