RESEARCH ALERT - Compaq raised

NEW YORK, Dec 3 (Reuters) - Robertson Stephens said Thursday
that analysts Daniel Niles and Alex Mou have raised their rating on
Compaq Computer (NYSE:CPQ - news) (NYSE:CPQ - news) and
increased their price target.

-- raised rating to a strong buy from buy.
-- increased price target to $50 from $40.
-- cited record November units, record holiday sales.

-- New direct program and higher mix of enterprise and service business ''should help increase
Compaq's gross margin to 30 percent.''

-- believed ''street high Q4 EPS estimate of $0.40 has upside based on units and that FY99 EPS has
upside as well.''

-- Compaq shares at 38, up 1-3/8.
