Nancy,

Thank you for filling me in. It would be difficult for me to think of a more terrible experience for a child, even if I really wanted to try to do so. So much tragedy and injustice simply because someone assigns a particular significance to a word, a race, a creed, a color, or a belief. All things we choose to teach ourselves. Most are externalizations and avoidance of responsibility for our own problems.

I remember being a young boy and eating dinner at my friend Andy's house. His mother cooked a fantastic Mexican dinner, which I, growing up in Michigan, found to be a rare surpise. I asked him how it was that his mother had learned to cook Mexican fare so well.

I remember what he told me to this day,"Because we're Mexican, stooopid." : ) Silly me, in my innocence, I had never seen anything but my friend Andy, and it never even occurred to me that he was a different color for a reason. : )

Ever since then, when I find myself slipping into a prejudiced thought like,"Why do they have those funny haircuts?", I always replay Andy saying,"Because we're Mexican, stooopid.". And usually I find that there was a thought of jealousy or something similar that I was trying to cover up by blaming them. I guess with some people, their equivalent mechanism is broken, and the pressure of restricted growth builds up to the boiling point.

Pogo spoke a classic line,"The Enemy is US!". Everyone we see as an enemy becomes so because of what and how we choose to believe is in the other person that we cannot even see. And to me, each time we do so is an attempt to hide a spot within ourselves that we don't want to look at.

If your efforts prevent one person from going too far, then they are much more than worthwhile. I find your composure on this board with all that has happened to your family remarkable, and worthy of emulation. Ironically, it may be the people like Donald Ray Anderson who serve as the most effective eye openers to those who might be headed down a similar road. Let's just hope that those in the future can learn from history. You said hate is the opposite of God, and I agree. If all the negative energy, and all hate is is energy, could be turned for good, what a wonderful world this would be.

Peace,
Darrin

HI Nancy,

what scares me is the similarities bewteen what floyd cochran(chief recruiter of theKKK) said in the article, and the words of the man at your temple, and emile. they all said the same things! Jews are Satan,
Jews control the media/power, and christians have inherited the mantle of the jews in the OT with the promises of the new covenant.

these people try to marginalize others with their hate, until they can rationalize killing them because they have no inherent value.

I thank heaven that no one was hurt, and pray that your family can emotionally leave the scars behind.

Mark
