Bid.Com International Inc BII
Shares issued 21,023,000 Dec 2 close $3.91
Thu 3 Dec 98 In the News
The Financial Post reports in its Thursday edition that Toronto-based
analyst Adam Adamou of Taurus Capital Markets says that Bid.Com
International is a game for fools and greater fools. Reporter Garry Marr
notes that Mr. Adamou has released a research report that says the online
auctioneer's huge stock price appreciation is not based on fundamentals. He
claims the valuation is even out of whack compared with firms that have
benefited from the United States Internet stock market frenzy. Mr. Adamou
says he thinks people went crazy on Bid.Com. He estimates the average
time-frame for holding the stock has been just one or two days. Comparing
Bid.Com's gross market to similar companies, Mr. Adamou says the firm does
not measure up to its rivals. Based on estimates for 1998, he calculates a
gross margin of just 2.65 per cent for Bid.Com, compared with 87.7 per cent
for EBay and 11 per cent for Onsale. With a fully diluted market cap of
$253.3-million last Friday, Bid.Com was trading at a multiple of 436, 60
per cent more expensive than EBay.

Uncle Bill is making a generalization about some of the Big internet names who have moved up beyond the stratosphere, he is not talking about Bid.com which he has never heard about, and has nowhere near reached the $100 range.
