One more thing,

Here is the WSJ Briefing Book on RSG:

Auto dealer and car rental giant Republic Industries has spun off its Republic Services subsidiary, one of the top solid-waste collection and disposal companies in the US, in a 1998 IPO. Republic Services provides waste disposal services for commercial, industrial, municipal, and residential customers in 28 states. The company also operates 42 landfills. Sports mogul Wayne Huizenga, who rode Waste Management to the top of the trash heap before becoming chairman and CEO of Blockbuster Entertainment and then of Republic Industries, is also chairman of Republic Services. A driving force in the industry's consolidation binge, Republic Industries has bought more than 100 smaller waste haulers since 1995.
