Patience is beginning to pay off. The only problem though, is that you grow old waiting:)

Mid-morning in Europe markets are off between 0.5% and 1.5% after mixed, but generally negative performance overnight in Asia.

Pre-occupation is with Brazil and the growing conviction that it will devalue. Most of the analysis is focusing on the immediate impact - in terms of the flight of private capital from Brazil - and the intermediate and long-term impact for the Brazilian economy, which should be good. With the impending fall of such a heavy sword on world markets, there is uncertainty about the short-term effects especially on the US market. The fact that we might be facing a weekend of worry might also prove negative.

For CPQ today, I suppose a lot will depend on whether positive company-specific news will overcome the backwash from a nervous market. On the other hand, CPQ went up two days ago partly on the basis of positive company-specific rumour and perhaps it might be a case of "buy on the rumour sell on the news" and catch up with the average percentage declines yesterday in the other boxmakers.

If it falls, I buy back what I sold yesterday, and a good bit more. Apart from CPQ's prospects, the Brazilian situation and the European situation should see further cuts in the UK interest rates, next week, to be followed by cuts in the US.
