Amigo and Amigas my report card(BTW all of this is in regards to my active SI portfolio ONLY as I have another passive a dull portfolio),on my ongoing diary of a person who did NOT know what EPS stood for,nor what quaterly reports were as recently as of July 1997-----I was up 30% in July when an amateur learned many hard and brutal lessons--my play in CDNW and NTKI I made every mistake that could be made--the most disastrous being that I had a GTC to sell that I had installed before I went to selling my covered calls--I will not pretend I was in a disaster situation-- at one point I saw my portfolio fall to down 10% on the year and in grave peril--I will not pretend,if I had simply not done anything with my 13k shares of NTKI/CDNW,and then sold at the top on the internet frenzy I would have made 200k profit---as it was,after losing 20k on the GTC catastrophe,I finally ended up down 4k on the original investment----but fortunately by agressively buying and selling with what cash I had left I was able to make dramatic gains--- today,because I have to again comtemplate taxes(and that the internets are looking very bad near term),sold my DBCC,PPOD,NM and ELBO---at an 8k loss . I am now holding only 4 stocks--ORVX,STVI,BII.TO and PQT--and I am now about 85% cash---and,in spite of near disaster,find I am up 35% for the year.(what a relief!!!) My other beginners mistake was holding ABTX on its wild run to 29 and not selling until breakeven at 19---all and all I feel the adversity that occurred and my having to sink or swim has in the past months really matured me as an investor and my knowledge of things about stocks has grown exponentially--and I am feeling confident about the future and am developing what I feel will be a killer strategy for 1999---one of which is to be armed with cash to buy stocks like AOL and HD and LOW at bargain basement prices in Nov/December '99-- Good Luck to all,Max DD it is 55 degrees here today and I am going outside for a walk!!WOW!! (Sandra,doesn't understand our excitement DD-- vbg) O,yes,for first strategy is to find a stock that will make enough profit to pay my taxes by selling it before April 99.
