On the subject of local political character, perhaps you'd like to answer JBL on the subject of Schipper's Democratic affiliation. As a flatlander and rock-ribbed Republican, I imagine you might have some thoughts on the matter. Most people get their religion from their parents, I wager, and in Chicago, I imagine Democratic affiliation works in a similar fashion. You think that's corrupt? I think you're the one being insulting. That may seem an unlikely stroke of charity for the lawyer heading the Republican inquiry into possible impeachment charges against the president of the United States. But President Clinton could do much worse than Schippers, a salty Chicagoan whose Democratic bloodline runs hard through a clan of police captains and firefighters, and, most recently, a "radical feminist" daughter.
