ASK 8 1/16. Need I say more. CellStar Launches Internet-Based Advanced Order System(SM) for Wireless Products PR Newswire - December 03, 1998 11:44 CARROLLTON, Texas, Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- CellStar Corporation (Nasdaq: CLST) today announced the launch of its Advanced Order System(SM), the first system developed by an independent wireless telecommunications distributor that enables customers to order cellular phones and related products via the internet. With AOS(SM), customers may place orders at any time of day or night for cellular telephones, accessories and handheld radios. Currently orders on AOS are restricted to U.S. inventory and shipment within the United States. The Company plans to expand AOS worldwide in early 1999. "With AOS, CellStar's customers can now transact business even more quickly and efficiently," said Dick Gozia, president and chief operating officer. "We're excited to be a leader in the application of the internet for processing orders and in other technologies that will facilitate the growth of the wireless telecom industry around the globe." Along with being a very efficient ordering system, AOS also provides CellStar with an industry advantage in providing its commercial accounts with consumer-direct sales capabilities, he said. "Our goal was to make AOS as intuitive and user-friendly as possible," said Richard White, vice president for Information Technologies. "The internet offers obvious business efficiencies for both CellStar and our manufacturing and network operator customers, but we also wanted AOS to be very user-friendly for retail consumers who want to buy over the internet. We're very excited about the launch; early reaction has been outstanding. AOS positions CellStar to offer consumers and commercial accounts a personalized buying experience." When first logging on to the AOS system, the customer must choose a user name and password that will be specific to that account. He or she may then browse through a product catalog of approximately 400 cellular telephones, accessories and handheld radios, selecting purchases with a click of the computer mouse and placing them in an electronic "shopping cart." Customers may create personalized shopping lists that focus on frequently- ordered items. In addition, they may review exclusive, on-line weekly specials that include free shipping, deeply discounted prices and other incentives. When ready to place the order, the customer simply clicks on the "purchase now" icon to submit the order electronically, or he or she can choose another icon to check CellStar's inventory for stock availability on a real-time basis. AOS also allows the customer to schedule shipment of the order and to track the status of previous orders. Paying for orders is equally straight-forward. Retail consumers may use any major credit card while commercial accounts may choose among standard business payment terms (net 30, electronic wire transfer and COD). AOS relies on Secure Socket Layer technology to encrypt sensitive transactions, protecting the privacy and credit security of CellStar's customers. Customer privacy is further assured by CellStar's commitment not to sell personal address information to any third party or telemarketing agency. AOS was developed internally by CellStar's Information Technology Group and is fully integrated with the Company's inventory management system. This includes CellStar's NetXtreme(SM) software, which enables CellStar's network operator partners to access customized web sites that provide hosted internet ordering for their dealers and consumers. Customers and others interested in the CellStar Advanced Order System may obtain additional information by clicking on the AOS icon at CellStar's web site www.cellstar.com, by requesting information via e-mail at information@cellstar.com, or by calling 1-800-530-4664.
