OK - here's the shocker link of the day:

biz.yahoo.com

According to Gartner group, TDMA is growing faster than CDMA in both unit sales and proportionally. Leading CDMA phone makers Qualcomm, Sony and Samsung all seem to have stagnant or declining market shares.

I'd say this is going to rock the boat. The TDMA market has been ignored by many leading manufacturers, because they were relying on early projections that gave CDMA a decisive growth advantage.

What now? I think Motorola's new TDMA Startac is not a tri-mode phone, so it can't even become part of AT&T's One Rate Plan. It would appear that Nokia was the only company that really bet heavily on TDMA in USA this year - against common wisdom. It's the only company with high volume new TDMA models on US market as the Christmas sales are rolling on. Could they have a shot at an unimaginable 50% share during 4Q? I'd say Sony and Samsung are now doing some intensive soul-searching.
