"You seem to indicate that Pair is the only telecom company in town chasing the future."

I don't think so. I am keenly aware of Pair's competitors and do significant investing in these cos. also, but few cos. in their leagure present such an opportunity. I too was greatly disappointed when Pair failed to translate a huge lead in HDSL and xDSL into expanision and growth of sales and earnings, but with there new products and an exploding market their potential for significant growth is still great. They are still a major player in xDSL, IMO.

<<Pair lost business to a competitor that it should have retained even at a loss in order to maintain a hold on the customer and to support corporate overhead.>>

I would have to disagree with this business model. There are times when one just has to walk away because the deal would not work. Whether The Competition is actually producing products at a lower cost to allow the dramatic price reductions will play out in the long run - we can look at their earnings (and with the warning from The Competition today, looks like it is not working).

Companies are in business to make a profit. Although there are cases where they will "buy" the business or job. This is often to gain entry into a company and not to maintain business, especially in a mature, commodity market.

Just my two pennies.
