Can't win um all! HP Named Preferred Supplier by DuPont Agricultural Enterprise December 4, 1998 11:02 AM EST PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 4, 1998--Hewlett-Packard Company today announced that it has been named as the preferred supplier for analytical instruments by DuPont Agricultural Enterprise. HP also announced a $3.5 million laboratory equipment order from DuPont. HP was awarded the multimillion-dollar order after it met all the criteria defined in DuPont Agricultural Enterprise's Preferred Supplier Program. HP will supply gas and liquid chromatographs, liquid chromatography mass-spectrometer systems, computer equipment, data-handling software, and specialized training and support. "DuPont Agricultural Enterprise recognized the need for a more strategic approach to standardized product quality testing at our sites around the world," said James Conaway, DuPont Agricultural Enterprise analytical technology manager. "This led us to a decision to standardize much of our test equipment and pursue a more strategic relationship with HP as the preferred supplier of our lab test equipment. Our experience with this program actually goes back to 1996. Since that time we have made significant improvements in our ability to effectively transfer analytical technology to our sites around the world." "As people move from project to project, it became necessary to maximize resources," said Sidney Goldberg, DuPont Agricultural Enterprise global technology sourcing leader. "Centralized procurement and decision-making functions have assisted in decreasing instrument and training costs while maximizing laboratory uptimes." DuPont Agricultural Enterprise's Preferred Supplier Program, headed by Goldberg, succeeded in creating standard equipment-configuration specifications for all DuPont agricultural laboratory sites. The program also included a special process for rapid technical support in some parts of the world. "HP was able to offer a total solution, from PCs to analytical equipment," said Jay Levine, DuPont global account manager for HP's Chemical Analysis Division. "HP helped DuPont Agricultural Enterprise focus on a single supplier for total system performance."
