Equally amazing: Those eager buyers weren't snapping up bargain machines made with Intel's inexpensive Celeron chip. Instead, they were clamoring for PCs built on the more powerful, and profitable, Pentium II.

Care to speculate how long before the Chinese masses hump the learning curve and figure out that high-end stuff to do low-end chores is overkill? Of course, low-end or high-end they will still need drives.... as long as they buy any kind of box....

Did the article say/hint at what rate PC or Intel sales were going up in China? Anecdotal evidence from Asia has been the waterloo of many multinationals, though Intel is rather more dependable. tia.
