As I recall, the last time Intel DuPont was in the news, it was about Intel contracting, or farming out, assembly operations for workstations. They said that assembly was more economically done by contracting it to a company that specializes in contract manufacturing, rather than keeping it in house. Sounded like it was too small of a group to warrant all the infrastructure support that would be required. A business decision.

A company around here that has done great in the area of contract manufacturing is Solectron.
