Skeets, this is the same line they are now spouting for the third time. It is called a seasonal uptick. He is talking crap all over the country, and each time he talks, it is treated as new news. And he never mentions the fact that this will still be a down year for Intel. Didn't anyone buy computers for Y2K this year? -g- Or, that eps will be about even with 4Q 1996. So, we have seen no or negative progress, depending upon whether you are looking at the year or the quarter, for the monopoly supplier in a growing business for either a year or two years. Oh, yeah, these guys are good managers. NOt!

My Y2K scenario is perfect. By next summer, nary a pc will be being sold to business in this country and in most of the world. Which will probably not be good for Intel. -g-

BTW, he didn't mention sell-through, for a good reason. It ain't happening. The distributors are buying because they expect it to happen, but so far, all they will say is that sales "are about as projected." Which says that Intel is either lying or mistaken, or, as usual, both. -g-

But I think I hit the nail on the head when I said the new demand was Compaq beefing up their direct sales effort. When that flops, el glutto profundo. -g- I actually expect it to succeed in its modest goals, but somebody somewhere, perhaps Compaq's sales from distributors, are gonna be hurting puppies.
