Hi xcr600. As Jim rightfully noted, I also believe that a great deal of volatility and daily volume is generated by day traders. I suspect 1/3 to 1/2 of our daily volume is contributed by short-term traders, including hedge funds who buy and sell tens of thousands of shares of stocks.

Furthermore, I think that this Maverick trading happens in the US more than anywhere else in the world. Perhaps because we are technologically more advanced, wealthier, and have much easier access to credit.

As Suresh said, the house has the upper hand. Have you ever wondered why there are so many gaps in the stocks? Or have you noticed the 45-->60 degree rise or drop on intraday charts of many stocks?

Last point: Everything in life is relative except death, IMO.
Nobody cares anymore since there are so many high PE stocks.
