Steve,

I never was a Boy Scout (wanted to, but didn't have the
chance), but I thought it was just about going camping
with friends and getting a break away from home for a change.
Woulda done me alot of good.

LOL

<I really never saw the point in being a Boy Scout. The things scouting is supposed to teach are much better taught by parents, with no need for psuedo-military uniforms and some outdated stiff-upper-lip (but not much else)British ritualism.>

Steve, I pretty much agree with you on this one. Most of the child rearing books I read advised against activities like scouting, because they teach emotional rigidity, conformity and all sorts of militaristic values.

However, as a child I really loved being a Brownie. While I have read a lot of critical things about Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts seem to be more liberally run. I don't remember anything about God at all, just a lot of very fun camping and sing-alongs and cookie selling.
