Hello Rick...good to hear from you! I had an unusual day today. I was so busy working on my mountain of high dollar Compaq PC's that I did not notice everyone had left the facility. I just happened to walk by the burglar alarm control box and noticed it was making a funny beeping noise. Sooooo, I go scurrying about looking for my alarm code, called the alarm agency, and was told someone had already "cleared" the alarm. Anyway, I have to figure out how to reset the thing and get the hell out of there. When I do finally get ready to leave there is a 4x4 parked in the front drive and a fellow in fatigues standing there with a police-looking shirt. He says "working late today?" And I explain the whole deal to him. He turns out to be a real nice guy. He has been watching the place on weekends for the last 20 years. My company has a wonderful corporate campus with a lake in front and all kinds of natural surroundings. They have decided the land is too valuable to remain there, they're selling and moving yet another 40 miles away from where I live (I already drive 36 miles each way....25+ on our notorious perimeter) this will happen by the end of next year. I stood there with the guy looking over the lake. About 75 to 100 Canada geese have taken up year long residence. He told me how he once counted 16 deer in the field near the lake. We lamented how the area has grown, and I keep thinking about where in the hell all this wildlife is going to go *TO*. The land (185 acres) has been sold to a developer and they are going to plow it under and build several car dealerships and some apartments. I am heartbroken....truly. I have just shy of 10 years with my company, and I don't want to move, and I keep thinking what a waste it all is. Metro Atlanta sucks....I say that with no reservations. The city "too busy too hate" also has no respect whatever for the past. The whole shitting place is just cars and fast food joints. The main reason my company is leaving is because of the difficulty in moving product out of the area due to the congestion. Sooooo, I guess when they move to the north (cherokee county) they can train former chicken plant workers to be "IT professionals" and skilled machinists, and maintenance workers, and you name it. 44 years old 10 years with one company, and I have to set out on a new career. I do not think it is safe or practical to commute 130+ miles a day in our traffic...ya know? Bummed, I tend to make radical changes when I am finally forced to confront the inevitable. It's sad too because I have really come to appreciate my job and the company I work for. I *don't* want to move from my house, but I may have no choice. Having a "pre-existing condition" I can forget health and life insurance anywhere else, to name but one benefit I currently enjoy. Plus the company has started matching my 401K contributions, ya da da da dah. Responsibilities....sometimes it seems I am only a "thing" that provides and goes through a remarkably similar routine day after day. Oh well....they could be moving to Mexico or some other place, look on the bright side, eh?<g> Thus ends my poignant moment of "sharing" with the group, and you. Later.... Hubert
