Les, Rush tells it like it is..... (a think piece) "WE GET IT" "We won big in 1994. We won big on a less-government agenda, the Contract with America. But what if a majority of the American people are now saying. "We don't want less government. We like bigger government". So I propose that Republicans begin advancing tax increases. Just say: "Okay, America we get it. We can read the election results. The Republican leadership is announcing a plan to raise taxes across the board - but especially on the rich. The rich are really going to get soaked. Since we've got such great economic growth due to the the Clinton tax increases of "93, let's raise them even more. We're also going to raise the capital gains tax. " What if the Repulicans advocated an increase in the minimum wage to $7.50 an hour, and ten bucks an hour by 2002? Furthermore, let's introduce a law stipulating that lying in legal proceedings involving sexual matter is not prosecutable. It's not criminal. We understand that having a sexual affair is a lie to begin with, so lying about it is inevitable. We don't think Americans should be held accountable when they have no choice but to lie, so in the future lying under oath about sex will be expected. Let's just put into our agenda everything we have been told the American people voted for in this election and just see what happens. Forget the effect on the Republican base. They're in the minority, anyway. So you make the minority mad, so what? Whoop-dee-do. You win elections with the majority, and the majority wants big government. The majority wants tax increases, especially on the rich. They want a minimum wage increase. They don't mind lying about sex in legal matters. So let's go ahead and sanctify it. The Democrats in Congress just won big. Conservativism has been given the boot. And if conservatives want to stay in office, they've got to give the people what they want. This is a democracy. The people have spoken. So here it is. We're just trying to get along."
