lml, I think you've given me too much credit here in several ways, but thanks nonetheless. Great reply, BTW. You note: >>Unfortunately, I am not read in the 1996 Act, so I cannot respond directly to your comments re: property law. I can only speculate what you are referring to. << Actually, I wasn't implying that Natural Law was being stipulated or in any way referenced in the Act of '96. It's almost humorous to think of how many ways it was actually being violated therein. For the greater good, of course. Unless it happens to be YOUR facilities: Witness T's haggling over resale rates with the ILECs for over two years, until they finally stated that it wouldn't be worth it. They would have demanded access to those facilities, though, if they were prepared to settle for the margins being offered, and taken the matter to court if necessary. Then they turn around and become involved with CableTV HFC with TCOMA. The moment that someone suggested that they should make those facilities available to others on terms similar to what they would have enjoyed with PacBell, say, they threatened to quit playing, take their ball, and go home. Rather, I was suggesting that natural law was something to be contrasted against what is taking place in monopoly-vested franchises. The two principles actually clash, since natural law is, well, natural, as in I killed that turkey, therefore it is mine, and monopoly franchises, which are, more or less, socio-spiritual fabrications of the legislature. ========= MSO, in CableTV terms, stands for Multiple System Operator. Not sure how many systems an org most own, though, before they qualify for this fraternity. Maybe someone else can fill us in. You were very close with the DAVIC acronym. From their home page FAQ: ---davic.org DAVIC's FAQs What does DAVIC stand for ? DAVIC stands for Digital Audio Visual Council What is the legal status of DAVIC? DAVIC is a non-profit Association established in Switzerland according to the Swiss Civil Code and registered at the Chamber of Commerce of Geneva. Why in Switzerland? DAVIC's scope is international with no bias towards any country or region in the world, hence the choice of Switzerland as the traditional neutral site, along with IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation) and ITU (International Telecommunications Union). What is the DAVIC "constituency"? DAVIC intends to be the home for all those who see the potential of digital technologies applied to audio and video. As such there is no "constituency" because the range of industries represented in DAVIC covers content, service and manufacturing companies.
