I think also that the term sub-zero referred less to the price than the quality of the components and the customer base.

It was clear from earlier company statements that DELL would not enter the sub zero market with the first Celeron chipset because that chipset was not especially competitive with the K6 and DELL had many more lucrative opportunities.

Now that DELL's new factories are open for the production of servers and workstations, it appears that DELL can address manufacturing capacity required for the production of high volume sub zero PC's.

Notice that their point of entry into this market is the business segment. This means that they intend to sell these low cost Optiplex desktops in conjunction with their other business offerings. They are aiming at selling complete business solutions rather than simply selling iron.

Expect DELL to strengthen its appeal to corporate and SMB customers. DELL has not targeted these sub-zero products at the consumer market.
