Hubert-
I think we went to the same high school. My Algebra teacher threw erasers at people when they were particularly dumb, and through the year I grew dumber and dumber. He called us by our last names, but never got them right- -my name was Chappell and he called me Camel. I used to get physically ill in his class when he called on me to go to the board. I went from making As to making my first D ever. Oddly though, he was considered the best teacher in the school by many of the boys. We girls hated him. He wore shiny black pants, a shortsleeved white shirt and a bowtie every day. He too was a relic and wouldn't last a day in a modern school.

How I sympathize with your experiences as a young male. CW went through a lot of that because he was different. There is nothing crueler than a bunch of adolescent boys when they turn on another. Except maybe a group of adolescent girls.
