Did some channel checks and Christmas shopping today. Channel checks are from Walmart in Pinehurst, NC.

Spoke at length to the electronics manager at Wal-Mart. They have a HUGE selection of games added in the past few months, with PC games the main focus, although Playstation and Nintendo still outsell the PC games. Playstation seems to be killing N64. Manager states that he is selling 4-5 new Playstations for every N64 system sold.

Revenge selling very well, as was WCW/NWO - this is also Wrestling country and all wrestling games move quickly. They were on their third shipment of 20 carts for Revenge and had only 6 left.

Rugrats for both PSX and Gameboy were moving slowly. Lots on hand but few sold. Color Gameboy moving very well and Bug's Life selling well. Small Soldiers surprisingly selling very well.

On a couple personal notes - purchased Nitro for the PC. Sorry guys, but IMO, this is a terrible game. Also, the shrink wrap on the package makes the 3D hologram look poor. That said, I got the last copy in the store after an initial shipment of 6 earlier this week. Novelty and monopoly in the PC market will probably move this title, but word of mouth won't.

Also bought Devil Dice for a nephew and played quite a bit today. This is a great game! Store still had 6 copies left of an initial shipment of 12. Too bad that more people don't give this one a chance - it is excellent.

I spotted Rugrats PSX in the Target and Sears circulars. NWO/Revenge also made those two, as well as CompUSA. I don't get Kay-Bee or Best Buy fliers, so maybe we had some THQ action in those too. God, it's nice to have more than one hit game.

Seems that a lot of stores are having trouble stocking Revenge and some are having trouble with Rugrats as well. It's a sign of phenomenal sales both specifically and throughout the industry. It does seem that Toys'R'Us has more stock right now than other chains so if one is looking to buy a copy, it might be the place to go first.

Thanks to BigBill for that amazing and thorough channel check, and here are two more, showcasing some nice quantities:

From: W J Hyland

Had an outstanding CC at BestBuy in WPB, FL. Got lucky and was able to speak
to a very articulate and knowledgeable teenage sales clerk. She told "we've
sold hundreds of Revenge". When I questioned the credibility of her statement
she was very resolute, telling me that they sold 250 in the first 3 days they
had it, and sold out every subsequent re-stock within 2 or 3 days. She said
"re-stocks" are usually about of
the original order, and that she guesses they've been re-stocked at least
twice. I said "thats 500 games!" -- she said "yes, for sure". She
volunteered that Zelda sold about 500 games within the first 3 days and that
re-stocks have been similar to Revenge, only larger (about 250 games in each
re-stock). I also asked about Rugrats. She said Rugrats was selling well,
but not in the same league as Revenge -- she was less certain of the
Rugrats sales, but guessed "probably 1/5 of what we've sold of Revenge, and
thats good -- remember, Revenge is a star."

The BestBuy in WPB is a very busy store; so busy that it's a pain in the _ss
to even get in and out of the parking lot -- just a hot store. Having said
that, however, I am still astonished at the amount of wrestling we are
selling. Revenge alone will make this a stellar quarter. If Rugrats sells
well and we are, in fact, selling some of the older (Quest, NWO, etc.) and
newer titles (Devil Dice, Bowling, G Darius, Gameboy titles), this will be a
most memorable and remarkable quarter. While I don't have as good a handle on
Rugrats sales, I see a number of posts suggesting that the game is selling
very well (comperable to Quest?). If this assessment is accurate, we will see
huge numbers for 4Q.

Deck the halls, Bill.
-----------------------

It seems that not only are just about all the games moving, but that we have re-orders this quarter of Quest and WCW vs the World. Plus, one poster in Miami noted a large quantity of Nitro PSX, so maybe one last shipment of that game too.
