Jorge, very good post. This deal also pulls the carpet off from underneath DOJ's case against Microsoft. You think Microsoft had a hand in this deal? It is the line that Microsoft has always held; "Let the market decide and Uncle Sam do not get involved" The difference is that if DOJ has proof that Microsoft indulged in monopolistic behavior and a bully, then DOJ will pursue regardless of the AOL-Netscape fact. It will also serve as a warning to AOL that they should not indulge in such arm twisting. AOL already has the correct first step by contacting Ralph Nader's group to explain the deal. By doing so, they have sent the first signal that they are a consumer based company and would like to work for the benefit of the consumer and thereby benefit if the consumer benefits.

Let us wait and see. In my opinion, if DOJ lets Microsoft with a slap on the wrist, then the AOL-Netscape deal will go through. If not then they will take a harder look at the deal and ensure that people like Ralph Nader's group are in the loop when they approve the deal.
