DW-

So then, as head of Strategy and Planning of our new CLEC, are you suggesting we all just go bowling?

BBFW is a technology that will distinguish THESE CLECs from others.

1010321 is WCOM

Hi Dreamweaver:

I guess we disagree strongly on CLEC prospects. All those
I listed are facilities based, i.e., they do not depend on the
RBOCs unbundling their copper lines. From a strategic
point of view all companies which offer an RBOC
bypass for the last mile have significant long term
value.

The proper parallel is not the airline industry but
the cable industry in the 70s and the competitive IXCs
(MCI, Sprint) in the 80s. The other day, John Malone
was being interviewed on C-SPAN, and he indicated that
at some point all cable outfits were struggling
for cash, and could easily have been bought very
cheaply by a big outfit, say like GE. He said that the
big reason why no-one was interested was that financial
analyses kept showing that cable companies would not
generate significant profits before a long time due
to their huge infrastructure costs. Sounds familiar?

Best regards,

Bernard Levy
