Interesting article. I believe that IBM, CPQ and HP have a two-step plan, PCI-X for a near-term fix which is compatible with existing PCI cards, and a next-generation switched fabric. Intel's NGIO is just too slow - it is 2.5 Gbits which is about 1/10th of the IBM proposal. CPQ is also capable of producing 2 GByte switch fabrics with Tandem technology. Why would they want to settle for something which is so much slower? I predict Intel will lose this one and NGIO will never happen.
