I understand what you mean. I've heard some people say that before. It came up a lot a few years ago with regard to Dan Quayle.

The way I see it, yes all families are very important, but I do believe it's more important for a society to have a mother and a father. That is a male and a female presence when raising children.

Although some single woman and men do a wonderful job raising children. By and large study after study has shown that lacking one or the other gives kids a missing element in their lives. Not sure about gay couples. I don't believe enough evidence has been gathered yet. Since most gay couples come from middle or upper class elements of society, I suppose they would have a better chance of counteracting those negative effects by understanding the potential exists and using resources like friends better. Not sure though.

The term "christian" seems to be one of those code words used by liberals to denote something ugly. Having more "christians" is not a big fear with me. By and large people of faith, whatever that faith, seem to do a good job of instilling in their children the core principles of honesty, trust, courage and fairness. I think of all the Catholic schools which have done a wonderful job over the years here.

Looking at family values as something exclusive is the image the major media pundits have tried to paint for years. Dan Quayle was right, family matters and fatherhood really matters to our society. Having as many politicians as possible, liberal or conservative talk about the issue is a good thing to me.
