If Microsoft will have the rights & royalties to the 1's & 0's shouldn't we all do what we can to encourage the use of "2000" instead of "Y2K"?

I think Microsoft is talking the way the binary numbers are operated. I can also invent some operation system between "0" and "1" and patent it. The current
binary has only "1" and "0", which use high and low voltages only , and use up too many transistor cells. With something between "0" and "1" , not only the system will
operate faster and be more efficient.

"1" was invented by Romans and "0" was intvented by Indians. they did not file for patent so it's up for grab for msft.
