Dan,

You may be right. But I had the same problems with quote freezes on Earthlink, GTE and MSN, all major providers with good reps. Using UUNET is vastly different in terms of performance. You may be right that some local isp might get a good connection too. I don't know. But as far as service goes, I have never gotten better service any where than with UUNET. Courteous sales guy who was very sharp. Courteous tech guy who patiently talked me through the setup and helped me with an unrelated Windows question as well.

Rick

The ISP I work with in fact uses UUNet as a backbone connection. All I am saying is that a local ISP may very well be just as good (and give you better customer service, since you are not just a cog in the machine).

I think you miss the point. SURE what you say is TRUE. A LOCAL ISP **MAY** very well give you excellent performance. The POINT IS that a Tier 1 provider **WILL** give you excellent performance and bandwidth.

Everyone needs to make up their own mind. Me? When I an executing trades amount to thousands of $$$ I am not about to futz around with some stinking $25+/- a month connection. I'm not about to waste my time trying to save a few bucks a year trying out various local ISPs. ONE bad connection at anytime might cost me $1,000.
