E,
Well you're all fired up! I didn't mean to raise your ire. It's true that we are often subjective in our thoughts and reasoning. Would it help if I said I can see more from my mountaintop. <ggg> That's just a joke spurred by another post. I have to confess though, I was singled out by my peers for special treatment in grade school, especially 6th grade. It was something that changed me and not for the better. It was not about religion though, nobody in Rochester, NY cared about that.

From my perspective on "the other side" of the issue of school prayer I am familiar with the extent to which the anti-Jesus forces wanted to go with it. You say now my child has the right to pray, but that is because of 10+ years of litigation and a supreme court decision in our favor. It was not granted to us by the anti-Jesus forces. They were striving for a completely "Jesus free" zone. We had to fight to have any rights at all. Teachers could not have a bible on the bookshelf, no bibles in the school library, children were forbidden to bring one to school. No mention of Jesus was tolerated anywhere. The American Center for Law and Justice was formed to combat this violation of our rights. They went to any school district in the country to litigate for christian children's rights to free speech and association. They're the ones who took cases all the way to the supreme court.

If I wanted to help Amnesty International by writing and sending cards my cards and letters would be censored. You posted that fact yourself. I like the mission of AI and have thought about them before. But how could a christian who is interested in human rights fit into an organization that endorses censorship of christian speech. Isn't that a profound contradiction for AI being a beacon for human rights to censor specific speech?

My child does have to listen to atheist views. She will be taught evolution soon. I will deal with that when the time comes. We have taught our child not to pick on other children for any reason. I suppose having been on the receiving end I am more sensitive to it. So is my wife. That would include for their religious views although I haven't mentioned that specifically. We keep fairly informed about what is going on in her school and class. Can I ask what your parents did to help with the problem when you were in school?

As a christian myself can I apologize to you, your sister and your friend for the way you were treated by your class mates. It was wrong and very painful for you and I am sorry that it happened. And that, I assure you, is what Jesus wants you to know also. He does not condone it. He said bless and curse not. He is sorry for the pain you, your sister and your friend were caused. He did not want it to be that way. Jesus is love and love cannot hurt anyone.

Bob
