Two weeks ended December 18 in review

For the TWO weeks ended Friday, Intrawest rose 2.6% on the TSE, 0.8% on the NYSE to 25.90 and 16.625 respectively.

While the cancellation of Whistler's Café de Columbia FIS World Cup alpine race a couple of week's ago weighed on the market, the subsequent running of an entertaining series of World Cup Boarding races neutralize the downside somewhat.

Weather will continue to play the dominant role in Intrawest's price for the next week. While Whistler/Blackcomb's start-of-season snowfall has been spectacular, other resorts in the Intrawest family have not faired as well. Copper Mountain in Colorado is suffering a particularly poor start, along with its neighbor down the road, Vail (MTN). (MTN's 10.3% decline over the past two weeks highlights the risk of placing all your eggs in one geographical basket as it were.)

With a winter storm warning currently in effect for most Colorado mountains, don't count Vail out just yet. Moreover, should Vail get a lift, expect ITW to be close behind. With a little help from the weather, my $30 target still looks valid. For now, have a good Christmas, and THINK SNOW!
