Chaz,

check is in the mail. I posted to Dave before I read your post.

Just want to add that many moons ago, I was chatting with a HK economist friend about the probability of a yuan devaluation. He said China, unlike Japan, still has the ability to reduce interest rates which were hovering around 8% at the time.

However, China is not a big consumer credit society. With unemployment so high, Zhu has already postponed some of his reforms. Further more, I still have no clue to extend of borrowing by State Owned Enterprises. This is like the Feds loaning money to the States. Would an interest rate cut, other than symbolic, accomplish much in a semi closed economic system like China?

Chaz, I tell 'ya I've been through this with his Ramsey-ness: give 'em an inch and he's off to the races. You'll be sorry, and we'll all have to endure another diatribe of Great Wall Economic Posts. Do I remind anyone that none other than moi predicted that it would be the Japanese who would be the major t*rd in the punchbowl? Nope, far too humble for that--heh, heh, heh.
Okay, round two from another Sprint PCS store elsewhere in the Bay Area. Surfette decided that the QCP 2700 was a bit large/heavy for her tender sensibilities, so she exchanged it for a . . . .Q PHONE! In stock at the Walnut Creek store (a total of 50 were delivered and zapped out in about 1 1/2 days, most off the waiting list). THIS salesperson was really neat--very well informed, articulate, good guy all around. Actually, an outstanding guy. Me feeling better.
Plus I sent engineer his $49.95 and got FREE advice from Michael, and between the 2 of them the flashing 12:00 is off my 2700, and the voice quality around what I understand to be pretty tough terrain is very, very good. All in all, a major improvement. Still, I can't help but wish that we had more Q phones in stock--the guy next to us damned near tried to rip it out of our hot little hands. The clerk at the Sprint store had just bought one for her dad for Xmas and she obviously had her choice of a zillion models. It's really cool and I hope we don't suffer too badly cuz we didn't make enough of them. Happier camper, Surfer Mike
