Shadow --- I lived in PA for 50 years and still work there. My daughter lives in a 'burb of Pittsburgh and the deer are all over. I drive the western 1/3 of the state and see them often. Between 80K and 100K are killed on the highways in PA each year. A tremendous cost in property damage (do not forget they are eating trees and shrubs in the cities too). What is needed is more hunters and more liberal seasons/limits (I do not hunt) to keep a check on damage. Those that have the Bambi thoughts about shooting deer have never seen herds that died due to starvation or disease. They easily over populate with no preditors except man and vehicles and can literally eat themselves out of a food supply. Winters with heavy snow can take an exceptional toll.

I used to have them in my yard. Kept an apple tree just for them and bought excess corn from a local farm to help them through winter. They would not run from our vehicles or noises like garage doors opening-- they would just watch! By doing that they did not eat my landscaping as they did the neighbor's <heh HEH heh>!

Shadow, You said a mouthfull. I too had an acquaintance killed by a deer in a similar manner. I hit the deer about 30 MPH as well. Thankfully, Someone was watching over us.
