Dave, Chaz was right, I was playing golf. Indifferently as is often the case. Again, I agree with him. TDMA is a special USA case, related to the collapsing analog market, the cheap AT&T deal, the excellent Nokian-like handsets which Nokia produces for TDMA and the head start which TDMA had. Don't forget, TDMA was well underway many years before cdmaOne. The hot stuff cdmaOne handsets from Motorola, QUALCOMM and others are only just getting to the shops and still in short supply. As SurferM said, he watched a lady go into a shop, primed up with information, magazines and request for a QUALCOMM phone. She left with a TDMA deal because what she wanted wasn't available. I don't think it wise to rush off and buy TDMA producer shares on the basis of the excellent sales of TDMA this year in the USA. When cellular providers [lumping PCS and cellular together because I don't see any real difference unlike dual mode and dual band which have clear distinctions] consider what system to install as their analog business dies away, they won't go to TDMA because AT&T are selling a lot of handsets and minute plans for TDMA. They will install cdmaOne networks with cheaper minutes, more flexible network planning, a one to one analog replacement network thus avoiding all the network redesign problems they'd have with TDMA, better quality sound, fewer dropped calls, a path to 3G and a much bigger market in a year or two. I can't imagine they'll go down a dead end street to compete with AT&T. There is no way TDMA is enjoying more than an Indian summer, or El Nino, El Nina or whatever the current jargon is. Mqurice Note: Nokian [TM] handsets are almost identical to Nokia handsets, but in the same way that Nokia and L M Ericsson think that IP should be free for anyone to use, this brand uses the 'Nokia' core label, which should be free to anyone so that they can compete equally in the marketplace so the free market can decide which to buy. Much like cdma2000 and VW-40 should both enjoy free IP from QUALCOMM so that the market place can decide [outside Europe which will remain as a VW-40 only camp by Eurocrat Edict], according to the bludgers around the world. Who I suppose will by now have opened their patent portfolios to QUALCOMM with no charges attached in the interests of demonstrating their belief in their idiot idea. Though because they are actually liars and thieves will not have done so. They remain hopeful of simply stealing QUALCOMM's inventions.
