I was down shopping for q phone, bam was out of the 820 but had plenty coming in. Should I get the 2700? or stay with 820. I mentioned earlier about sprint not having complete coverage in the area.

A friend just down the street mentioned he can't get any response in his house/yard but once he gets out on the street he gets a signal. He also mentioned it drops in a couple of places on his way to work. Only a few miles away. John

ps sprint seems much cheaper than bam but it if doesn't work its not worth anything....

marginmike,

Bam blows away sprint in NYC.

Can you elaborate please? I am about to buy a bunch of mobile phones, and I was leaning to Sprint. They seem cheaper, and more flexible in pricing and features for volume accounts.

The phones would be used only in Manhattan. Are there any issues with coverage in Manhattan with Sprint? Sprint mentioned that there may be some problems with reception deep inside buildings. I actually had a first dropped call (on ground floor in Bloomingdale's, in about the center of the building). I am not sure if BAM would be any better using either digital or analog modes.

I have not got a text message, but I find the Mot screen fine, and the font's quite nice. Have you seen the new MOT. It has a new LCD larger screen.

Are you talking about Startac or the cheaper MOT model? What is the resolution (in characters)? The most common seems to be 4 lines by 12 characters on QCOM, Samsung and Nokia phones, which, in my opinion is just pathetic.

I did try the text messaging on a Sprint network. It works fine and reasonably fast, but for this to be practical for heavy use, you would need a larger, higher resolution display, with more information available. Like pdQ.

We have given up on waiting for pdQ. I don't want to be the pioneer. I will wait until it has been out for a while and some reviews from actual usage are in.

We will most likely go with 1920 Sprint or 820 if we go with BAM. BAM salesperson was pushing the MOT phone (even though he said he thought QCOM 820 was the best). To be fair, I asked him which model was the most rugged in his opinion.

I would appreciate any other experience you have had to help me make a good decision. TIA.

Joe
