Flatsville and Ed, thanks for your informative posts. You have almost persuaded me to go for wood stoves! :-) (What a mess, though.)

Question: What would you do about frozen pipes? And how would you keep them from freezing in the first place (assuming you don't have heaters in every room and in the basement, as well as a two-story warehouse out back for storing fuel)?
