RE: Gardner and Wall St analysts.

Of course they are primarily marketing people, whose main purpose is to generate commissions for brokers. In fact, a large portion of most Wall St. analysts' bonus is based upon how much commissions they generate for the sales force. That's why you have to take everything a Wall St analyst says with a rather large grain of salt. If the Gardners' only found this out recently, they haven't done much homework.

WRT to Kurlak, I have never said that he had any profound thoughts on the semi industry or Intel. What I have said is that he has historically had a knack for participating in the major moves up in Intel stock, and for advising caution when the stock has been in a trading pattern. That does not mean he is necessarily right now, but it does mean I pay attention to what he has to say. When I want to understand more about the industry or Intel, I can easily come to this board and learn what a lot of people can share about their understanding and first hand experience in the industry. The only analyst that can come close to matching that is Drew Peck of Cowen.

This seems to be a timely topic. There is a lot of noise concerning this article on the sell side analysts: rcmfinancial.com

Although it may seem satirical, pay very close attention to the statistics. The brokerage firms forecasting performance has been broken out individually as well as through First Call and IBES.

They are having a discussion about it on yahoo

Beyond Valuation And Analysis -- UBID vs. EBAY

For the folks who still believe that analysis, valuation, and other means of smoking and mirroring have anything substantial to do with the movement of IPOs and other stocks, I refer you to a compelling article. This link may have been posted here or on another BB, and I'm not interested in being credited with its presentation here or elsewhere.

If you don't read it, or you don't know how internet stocks are valued, you'd better take a look here before making grand pronouncements regarding where, when and at what price MALL/UBID will settle, based on your DD and research.

Stock prices are never, ever, ever determined by individual investors or groups of individual investors.

Do yourself a favor, particularly if you're long on MALL and/or UBID, and read about all that goes into pricing:
