NOVL smoothing earnings.

The upside is what we've seen with the stock performance. Using that approach shows Schmidt knows how to play the "expectations" game, and Wall Street trusts that.

Much better for shareholders-----at least short term.

The downside to me would be when the average shareholder needs to know when the previous gains that have been "banked" are being used to "smooth" what has become a deteriorating situation?

Not healthy bookkeeping, not transparent, and long term not good for the next waves of shareholders who will be attracted to beaten expectations.

Bottom line is, how does "smoothing" and just beating expectations every quarter show the real current situation in a company?

Great for analysts, though. No heavy lifting.

Current NOVL T/A. I had said when I sold at $18 3/4 on the day after earnings, that the major breakout had been in the low $15's, and that level would probably be tested after earnings.

Was the drop to just under $16, within a day or two after the highs, close enough?

Dwight

Novell Inc.'s BorderManager 3 provides a breadth of Internet management and connectivity capabilities, and its integration with NDS makes it an extremely compelling Internet security choice for NetWare shops.

Is this a loss of an existing account for Novell? Can anyone provide any more details. Will Novell be present at all in this situation?
