IBM / ATT swap network for computer services.

zdnet.com

I remember several years ago when ATT and SUN began to work together to create a unified Unix standard. IBM created their competing Unix offering in order to fragment the market and stop the effort (embrace and extend as Microsoft would say). Well, it looks like IBM has won. ATT has admitted that they should stay out of the computer services and stick to networks. The cost to IBM? a stagnant AIX product that they really didn't want in the first place and right to service their old opponent's legacy systems until they are replaced.
The clear winner of this battle? Microsoft.

TP (Who hopes that the companies involved have learned that focusing on stopping an opponent instead of pushing your own advantages does not work well).
